78rpm RITMO n°17

In 1931’s Paris, Eugène Delouche, a clarinettist born in Martinique in 1909, was Stellio’s equal in spreading the beguine.
After World War II he founded RITMO, the label on which he recorded his own 78’s, giving free rein to his creative imagination in jazz and the music of the Caribbean.
While
my researches into 78 rpm, I once found this very graphic and beautiful
red sleeve from an old and obscure label called Ritmo. You probably
remember of it as I used it for the artwork of the namesake 'Ritmo' compilation. On this same cover was wrote in French 'The most tipical French West-Indies orchestras are recording on Ritmo'. As I had never heard about it before, this was enough to really excite my curiousity.
So check 'Mangozo' and 'Madinina', both sides of this fantastic early 50s 78 rpm recording where figured David Martial at his very beginning.

.BIGUINE-LÉLÉ avec FRANCISCO
sous le ciel des Antilles.
Hit Parade HPR 50

Denis Mathurin Frantz alias Francisco was born on the 9th of November 1932,
at the Clinique Saint-Paul, in Fort-de-France (Martinique). This complex and ambivalent character led a bohemian life while remaining faithful to his bourgeois origins and despite its commitment to the traditional music of his native island, he contributed a lot in the establishment of the Afro-Cuban music in Martinique.
He has revolutionized the accompanying concept of the Creole biguines and mazurkas, but he was very respectful of the specificities of these traditional forms and worked for their reintegration in the repertoire of dance band. The Lp we are presenting to you is his second Hit Parade album

This Lp has been found, recorded and shared by My Old Friend Fred Martin so, many thanks to him.

DANIEL LENCINA

This record released on Fermata is the second on a serie of three called 'Candombes de Vanguardia', wich means 'Avant-Garde Candombes'.
This serie has been produced in 1965 by Georges Roos and edited in Buenos Aires during the same year.
According to the Uruguayan musicologist Guilherme de Alencar Pinto, this record conducted by Lencina's band is influenced by the 'Cool' and the work of Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
Personnaly I would say also that it sounds as an extremely good Afro-Latin Jazz !
Alencar Pinto adds that are playing in this band:
Daniel Lencina (trumpet), Santiago Ameijenda (drums), Paolini (sax), Ringo Thielmann (keyboard), Eduardo Useta, Buby Paolillo, Guillermo Facal, Lobo Lagarde (contrabass)
and the brothers Silva (percussions).

Daniel 'Babicha' Lencina is an Uruguayan trumpeter, singer, songwriter and showman born on 17th July of 1938 in the city of Fray Bentos, in Rio Negro's province. Considered by some as the best trumpeter player who gave Uruguay, he traveled around South America and make numerous collaborations including with the maestro Mike Dogliotti or jazz musicians as Winton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Patrick O'Leary and James Moody. He's still playing nowadays in events and jazz concerts.

Georges Roos is an Uruguayan musician, singer and songwriter. He directed La Peña del Jazz, played with the legendary Lecuona Cuban Boys, and in Europe with Lalo Schifrin and Gato Barbieri. Along with Manolo Guardia, he conceived the idea of a different from of candombes. He produced the first candombe-jazz albums but unfortunately didn't receive the expected success.

Moussoko Robatike
1976 - Sonafric SAF1780

In 1964, saxophonist Idrissa Kone and railroad singing Tidiani Coulibaly form the Volta Jazz, a modern orchestra who will soon bring to dance the banks of the river Dafra.
With around twenty 45 rpm towers issued, Volta Jazz is gradually growing up on the national scene, with his rival, L'Harmonie Voltaïque of Ouagadougou
Usualy playing a Afro-Cuban style in line with Congolese and Guinean song from this period,
here is one of their most original recordings,
5 minutes of Garage Rock from Burkina Fasso.

.Mobali Ya Ngenge.
In April 2010, the two comperes decided to go out from the radio receiver to conduct, backed with a solid orchestra, an African ball called 'Le Bal de l' Afrique Enchantée'.
I've been djing with 'L'Afrique Enchantée & Les Mercenaires de l'Ambiance' at Cajarc for the Africajarc Festival!

Dropping fluid beats and incorporating eclectic sounds, he builds a canvas of warm instrumental beats that catch both your ears and your soul. Contain the amazing track "Unstable Material 2" with Existereo, Subtitle, Awol One & Metfly vocals, a MUST heard, as well as "Seeds Of Revolution".
